The 2021 National Women's Soccer League Challenge Cup presented by Secret Deodorant returned this April for its second annual tournament.
The exciting 21-game tournament kicked off with a rematch of the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup final between Houston and Chicago at BBVA Stadium. The Challenge Cup was originally established in 2020 amidst the pandemic in place of a regular season. This led the participating players to take part in the first quarantined "bubble" in sports, with all players staying in Utah.
The final game took place on May 8th with Portland Thorn FC facing off against NJ/NY Gotham FC. The game ended in a thrilling penalty kick shootout (6-5) with Portland Thorn FC being crowned the 2021 NWSL Challenge Cup champions.
The Challenge Cup trophy is an elegant trophy cup in a mirror-like silver mounted atop a stepped black base. Society Awards also crafted some beautiful medals for the winners to wear with pride.
