Bolivia's Lenka Nemer was named as the recipient of the first-ever Miss Universe Social Impact Award at the 69th Annual Miss Universe competition. As an international affairs graduate, she hopes to use her voice to speak up about hunger, education, gender equity and gender violence.
Lenka is passionate about childhood hunger and continues to focus her work on food security issues, preventing hunger and breaking stereotypes related to poverty. After struggling with food security as a child, she founded Huertos Urbanos Bolivia, an urban cultivation program that seeks to generate sovereignty and food security through education. This incredible urban garden program began as a means to help 40 people but has expanded to helping establish gardens for over 120 families.
The Miss Universe Organization (MUO) is a global inclusive organization that celebrates women of all cultures and backgrounds and empowers them to realize their goals. The organization fosters experiences that build self-confidence and create opportunities for success. As the winner of the Social Impact Award, Lenka received $10,000 to support her initiatives on hunger and social development.
