Each year, the GRAMMY Museum – a sister company to the Grammy Awards – hosts the Jane Ortner Education Award Luncheon. This event honors performers who have demonstrated passion and dedication to education in the arts as well as K-12 academic teachers who use music in the classroom as an educational tool.
These awards were established by the Grammy Museum in partnership with entertainment lawyer Charles B. Ortner, a Museum Board member. Mr. Ortner was also husband to Jane Ortner, a beloved public school teacher who valued music in teaching academic subjects and inspiring confidence within her students. The luncheon will take place on April 4, 2016 at Ron Burkle’s Green Acres home in Beverly Hills, California.
Society Awards is honored to have made both awards this year. The 2016 Jane Ortner Artist Award will be presented to six-time GRAMMY award winner Lady Gaga and the Jane Ortner Education Award will honor Jonathan Bernal from the Topaz Preparatory Academy. The event will also include a special performance from Oscar Award-winning singer John Legend.
All proceeds from the luncheon will benefit the
continued expansion of the Jane Ortner Education Award program, which includes
professional development workshops for teachers and an online library of
educational material and lesson plans that are free for educators.
The luncheon will also help to fund additional music education initiatives of the museum, which reach more than 25,000 children and teenagers annually through tours, educational workshops and summer and after-school programs.
