In 2014 we created The SOCAN, a one-of-a-kind musical sculpture trophy designed for the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN). SOCAN came back to us and tasked Society Awards with creating a plaque for the 2015 SOCAN Awards, to be awarded along with The SOCAN design.
Honoring the Best Songwriters and Composers in Canada
First introduced at last year’s SOCAN Awards. The SOCAN was awarded to Canada’s music creators for major lifetime achievements. Drawing inspiration from the custom design, we immediately went to the drawing board to concept ways to incorporate the signature piece of the original design; the SABIAN crotales.
The custom designed musical sculpture trophy incorporates five SABIAN crotales, crafted from their exclusive centuries old bronze alloy. These precision tuned elements can be adjusted annually, allowing the trophy to produce a new and unique melody each season.
In the final design, we reimagined the signature crotale as a medallion, hung on the front of a metal presentation plaque and removable. The ornate medallion is made of polished brass and adorned with the SABIAN logo.
