Will There Be a 1 Billion Subscriber YouTube Creator Award?

At Society Awards, we are proud to design and craft the iconic YouTube Creator Awards, recognizing the incredible milestones achieved by creators around the world.  The program celebrates each account as it grows by factors of 10: 100,000, 1,000,000, 10,000,000, and 100,000,000 subscribers.

YouTube introduced the Creator Award in 2012, starting with the Silver Play Button, awarded to users who reached 100,000 subscribers.  This award signifies the transition between a hobbyist and a professional creator.  Following the Silver Play Button is the Gold Play Button, for channels reaching 1,000,000 subscribers and displaying a sizable impact on the platform.

Our CEO, David Moritz, innovated the creative design approach for the 10 million Diamond Play Button, and our designer, Vicky Fotopoulou, realized this concept in three dimensions.  At the time many believed this would be the highest award level needed.  However, creator PewDiePie and T-Series were fast approaching the 100 million subscriber mark; therefore, a 100 million Creator Award had to be created.  Answering the call, Moritz produced a way to take the Diamond Play Button design to a new level.  We partnered with Baccarat; an ancient, historic French luxury crystal manufacturer known for their breathtaking chandeliers.  Together we created the prestigious 100 million Red Diamond Play Button for YouTube.

Channels often celebrate other milestones, like total views or subscriber counts, but these awards are not official.  Each one is a custom creation by the creator, their managers, or friends to mark their achievements.  It has become common to have custom subscriber awards for reaching 50 million and above.  Most notably, MrBeast’s channel has now exceeded a tremendous 300 million subscribers.  These custom gifts are designed to fit the aura and personality of each individual channel.

Now we find ourselves asking an exciting question: Could someone reach 1 billion subscribers?  And if they did, what would the award look like?  Continuing YouTube’s tradition of officially marking factors of 10, if any channel started to approach 1 billion subscribers, YouTube and Society Awards would collaborate once again to officially recognize that level.  From experience, once one channel reaches it, others will follow.

How could we top the Red Diamond Award?  With a custom watch?  A car?  An island?  The 1 billion subscriber award would most likely follow the same design style as the others.  However, the Red Diamond Award already uses a very valuable and famous luxury material, and the new award can’t just be bigger and heavier.

We are excited to watch the future of YouTube unfold and honored to be a part of making history in the digital community.
