For professional women’s lacrosse, the WLL inaugural season and championship series marked the beginning of a new chapter and defining symbol for the game and its athletes.
The symbol, the WLL Championship Cup, is a custom trophy designed and manufactured by Society Awards to honor the elite athletes who earned that first victory and all that earn it in the future.
An Opportunity to Create a Legacy
Formed in 2025 as a subsidiary of the Premier Lacrosse League, the Women's Lacrosse League launched with four teams: the Boston Guard, California Palms, Maryland Charm, and New York Charging.
The PLL launched the women’s league with an eye on the 2028 LA Olympics, stating in a press release that their goal was to create “...a groundbreaking step forward for the sport, giving elite women athletes a premier stage to compete, inspire and make their mark as we move toward lacrosse’s reemergence at the Olympics in 2028. ”
With the Olympics looming on the potential Team USA, the League is hard at work building the victors with the Championship series. On August 15, 2026, in Philadelphia at Subaru Park, the league crowned its first champion when Maryland Charm defeated California Palms 16–13.

A Custom Championship Trophy Designed Around the Game
For this custom award creation, rather than applying a conventional trophy shape to this league’s championship award, Society Awards looked at the WLL branding and unique characteristics of women’s lacrosse for inspiration.
Standing 24 inches tall, the WLL Championship Cup is machined from aluminum and finished in shiny silver and gold electroplating. The trophy has silver wings forming from the center extending to both sides, while a gold women’s lacrosse stick head sits atop, a direct nod to their logo.
As part of the design research, our experienced designers looked at the difference between men’s lacrosse sticks and women’s lacrosse sticks. Where men’s stick heads and pockets can be wider and one lacrosse ball, women’s stick heads and pockets are thinner and shallower.
A unique feature about this custom trophy is that it was designed with a removable upper section that can be separated from the base for championship photography. After the celebration, the upper portion is slotted back into the base, creating the complete trophy as a display piece.

The Future of Women’s Lacrosse
With the inaugural season complete and plans for future expansion, this custom sports trophy is positioned to return annually as new teams and champions enter the league's history. Each season will add another winner and chapter to the continuing story of the WLL, and Society Awards is proud to be a part of it.
